The best breakfast for an athlete depends on what will happen next. Training time, load, appetite and tolerance matter as much as the ingredient list.
Seven useful combinations
Porridge with banana and yogurt; toasts with egg and fruit; homemade rice pudding; oatmeal and cocoa pancakes; yogurt with granola and red berries; tortilla sandwich; or bowl of quinoa, cooked apple and cinnamon. Each base can be adjusted in volume and accompaniments.
Before training
When there is little time, simple textures and a tested quantity are appropriate: cream of rice, ripe banana or toast can be easier than a very fatty or fiber-rich combination. If the session is later, breakfast may be more complete.
A system, not seven isolated recipes
Keep a cereal base, fruit, protein and a flavor complement available. The player can choose within a structure defined by his nutrition professional. This guided autonomy improves the experience without messing up the objective.
PRACTICAL KEYS
To bring it to the kitchen
- Relates the size of breakfast to the subsequent session.
- Offers texture alternatives for days with little appetite.
- Don't confuse “healthy” with “adequate”: the context decides.
